Last updated: 2026-06-18Han from yaku sets whether you can win and scales base points. Study with Scoring Basics and Fu Basics.
Rules of Thumb
- No yaku → no win (except noten penalty contexts) → effectively ≥ 1 han
- Multiple yaku add (yakuman separate)
- Mangan thresholds depend on rules (e.g. 5 han or 4 han 40 fu)
Sample Yaku
| Yaku | Han | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Riichi | 1 | Closed only |
| Tanyao | 1 | |
| Pinfu | 1 | Closed |
| Iipeikou | 1 | Closed |
| Haitei | 1 | Tsumo only |
| Dora | 1 each | Indicator tiles |
Dora
Each dora indicator in the winning hand adds 1 han (kandora separate). Two dora can reach mangan—balances with tile efficiency.
Win example
