Iipeikou

Last updated: 2026-08-18

Iipeikou requires two identical sequence pairs (same suit and same ranks) in a closed hand. See Riichi Mahjong Yaku Guide and Pinfu.

Requirements

  • Closed hand
  • Two sequences that match exactly (e.g. two m123)
  • Fixed 1 han

Adjacent different sequences (e.g. m234 + m567) are not iipeikou. Ryanpeikou is two pairs of identical sequences — higher han; not a separate article in this batch.

Valid example

Man 112233 splits as two m123 sequences — iipeikou applies. Also pinfu (two-sided on 4 man) — 2 han total.

Invalid or confusing

Man 234567 is two adjacent sequences, not two identical ones. Only Tanyao — no iipeikou.

Stacking and open hands

Iipeikou does not apply after melding. Often stacks with pinfu and tanyao. If the shape fits ryanpeikou, take ryanpeikou (higher han), not chiitoitsu.

Scoring

Iipeikou adds no extra fu; fu follows pinfu structure when stacked. Often 30 fu with pinfu. See Fu Calculation Basics.
